The annual award was presented at the state convention.

Kirsten began her nursing career in 1976, working as a CNA. After obtaining her BAN degree, she continued her nursing career as a floor nurse, charge nurse, assistant director of nursing and, most recently, as Director of Nursing at Elim. Her extensive experience is a great contributor to her success as a nursing administrator.

Well-known for her passion for mentoring, Kirsten and her staff provide opportunities for hundreds of high school and college students to explore the world of long-term care.

Day to day, Kirsten demonstrates the finest and highest standards of compassionate, thoughtful and innovative leadership. In 2009, when all the long-term care facilities in Fargo were evacuated, Kirsten supervised the transition of residents, including 50 residents who went to an empty facility in Steele.

Within 24 hours of the evacuation notice, Elim had a fully functioning nursing home, 140 miles west of their usual location. After overseeing the residents' transition to other locations, Kirsten joined the crew at Steele, where she and her unit managers rotated shifts during the three-week evacuation.

Kirsten is passionate about quality care, and along with her team, has developed many innovative methods of providing care for residents that have earned Best Practice Awards.

"We're very proud that Kirsten was recognized for her exemplary efforts," noted Tim Hager, Elim campus administrator.
